SECURITY PLANNING AND OPERATIONS FOR A SPORTING EVENT

DELIVERY OF SECURITY PLANNING AND OPERATIONS FOR A LARGE SCALE SPORTING EVENT

THE CHALLENGE

A major event administrator was forced to declare a large-scale sporting match to be ‘high-risk’ based on the teams involved and the history of disruptive behaviour by spectators. With an expected attendance of more than 44,000 spectators, the event required strict security planning and large-scale crowd management strategies.

THE PROCESS

HATAMOTO managed the delivery of security planning and operations for the event (including development of large-scale crowd management strategies). We coordinated large numbers of stakeholders across a complex structure and within multiple operating environments to achieve common objectives.

A successful risk assessment and thorough security planning led to the identification of match specific risks and implementation of additional security measures for the event.

THE RESULTS

Strong leadership, appropriate policies, procedures and practices led to the event being declared successful by all safety and security stakeholders. As a result of HATAMOTO’s security planning and operations for the event, and through the confidence and support of multiple agencies including Police, the event was run without incident. This ensured the media remained positive about the event focussing on the match and not security.
